Plasma Nitriding Plant / Plasma Nitriding System

Nitrion GmbH Nitrierbetriebe Bayern, Germany offers Plasma Nitriding Equipment for in-house installation. We also offer plasma nitriding as a contract service in our German, Brazilian and US-companies. Our extensive service center experience reflects in the layout and design of our plasma nitriding plant concepts.

For plasma surface treatment processes (nitriding, nitrocarburizing, oxidizing) furnaces under pulsed plasma are state of the art. This technology assures the least distortion and a high repeatability of batches treated.

Nitrion reactors are designed as portable cover reactors. For loading and discharging the upper lid is lifted out off the way. The batch treated afterwards is freely accessible.

Nitrion Plasma Nitriding Plants are designed as mono operation units or as twin operation units.

Mono operation units are the classical heat treatment set-up with one control unit and one retort.
Essentially the new batch can only be prepared once the previous batch has been treated, cooled-down and discharged.
Twin operation units consist of two retorts linked to a single control unit. While retort A warms up as well as during the actual retort A heat treatment the next batch is prepared on the separate base plate of retort B. Once that is done the upper retort lid B is lowered on retort B.
As soon as retort starts to cool-down the control unit the nitriding process in retort B.
Switching from one retort to the other happens automatically and allows night work and weekend usage.

Electronic Controls

Temperature measuring is done directly at the work piece. That way the most accurate results are obtained ensuring the highest reproducibility.

SPS-controls assist the operator with fully automatic batch management including visualized process monitoring.

The advantages of pulse generators used by Nitrion GmbH

  • easy to use
  • reliable
  • modest maintenance requirements, easily accessible
  • designed for permanent overload and electric short resistant
  • modular design

Post Oxidization

Oxidizing the nitrided surfaces is standard practice not only in the automotive sector. The aim is to improve corrosion resistance substantially.

Uncontrolled iron and iron nitride are being modified to a stabile iron oxide spinel topping the white layer with a chemically resistant protective coating of approx. 1 µm.

Such post-oxidization may also take place after a glass-bead treatment. Thanks to the reduced surface roughness a white layer with a well anchored black shiny oxide surface builds up.

Post-oxidization may be coupled with the basic nitriding process in one go.
